Licenses can be bought directly on our website, directly, or through our distributors.

Our license system works with points. Each point is 1 variable that is being communicated with a device.

Only enabled devices and their enabled variables are counted. Local variables do not count against the license. The exception is a Local variable that receives data from outside EnvisionSCADA: External Source enabled (written by a Python script with Network & File Access or through the Runtime API), Writeable ticked (written by a gateway such as the built-in OPC UA server) or a History Source that reads its trend history from another system. Each enabled one counts as one point. In this version these Local variables are counted and shown on the License page, but are not yet part of the license check: a future version adds them to the Current Point Count. When the License page shows that the project then exceeds the License Point Count, update the license or contact support before installing that version. See the Local Variables and Python Scripts articles.

We work with the following point license intervals:

  • 100
  • 150
  • 250
  • 500
  • 1000
  • 1500
  • 2500
  • 5000
  • 10000
  • 15000
  • 25000
  • 50000
  • Unlimited

You can always upgrade your license to a higher point count, and you will only pay the price difference.

Once you buy a license, you will receive a License Code.

Version Upgrades

Upon activation, your license is valid for all versions being released 12 months from that moment on. The product will continue to work regardless of the rest of those 12 months.

At any time that you wish to upgrade your version to the latest version, you can buy a version upgrade anytime. We highly recommend staying up to date with the latest versions for cybersecurity and compatibility reasons. If you need to wait a couple of years, we don’t punish you. You can upgrade any older version to the latest version with a product update.

Activation

In the menu, click on License. The License page shows the License Status, the Current Version, the License Version, the Current Point Count, the License Point Count and the License Code of the entered Activation Code. When Local variables count as license points, a second line below the Current Point Count shows the count including them, the Local variables with External Source, Writeable or a History Source. In this version they are counted, not yet part of the license check: the second line is the point count a future version checks, and it is marked when it exceeds the License Point Count.

To activate a license, you need the Computer ID shown on the License page. Request the Activation Code at www.envisionscada.com/Activate with the Computer ID in the Machine ID field, your License Code and the Owner Email. The Activation Code is sent to the owner email.

Fill in the Activation Code in the Activation Code field and click Update.

Activation Code and EnvisionSCADA Version

The Activation Code matches the EnvisionSCADA version that produced the Computer ID. The latest versions of EnvisionSCADA read a signed Activation Code, earlier versions read the Activation Code format they were delivered with. The Activate page recognizes the version from the Machine ID it receives and sends the matching Activation Code.

After an upgrade from an earlier version, the License page shows the following message, and the system runs in Demo Mode until the new Activation Code is entered:

This Activation Code is for an earlier version of EnvisionSCADA. Request a new Activation Code at www.envisionscada.com/Activate with the Computer ID below.

Request the new Activation Code before or after the upgrade:

WhenPageFields
Before the upgradeRe-issue Activation Code (www.envisionscada.com/Reissue)License Code, Owner Email
After the upgradeActivate (www.envisionscada.com/Activate)Machine ID (the Computer ID shown on the License page of the new version), License Code, Owner Email

Both pages send the Activation Code to the owner email, for the computer the license is already activated on. Request a new Activation Code for every computer that is upgraded.

The Re-issue Activation Code page requires active support on the license. Neither page moves a license to another computer, see Lost License.

Computer ID

Licenses are BOUND to the computer hardware configuration. You may NOT change the hardware configuration of the computer after deploying the license. We make an exception to Disk Space and RAM Memory and the Power Supply. You may expand these anytime, the Computer ID will not change. You may also change the Computer Name, Workgroup or Domain.
For example, you may not change (including but not limited): Motherboard, CPU, RAM Type, Disk Type, Network Adapters, ...

Demo Mode

If no Activation Code is specified, the system will run in demo mode.
Demo mode allows you to develop for 4 hours, then stops all services for 5 minutes, and then allows you to restart the demo mode again.

There are no limitations during Demo Mode. You can develop an entire system.
We want development to be free, and free forever.

Pilot License

A Pilot License is a license with an Expires On date, issued for a pilot project. A normal license has no Expires On date and never expires.

The License page shows the Expires On date of a Pilot License. From that date on, the system runs in Demo Mode. The date is checked at startup and continuously while the system runs.

A Pilot License requires the latest version of EnvisionSCADA. To extend a Pilot License or to convert it to a permanent license, contact us. An activated Pilot License then receives a new Activation Code by email.

Two system variables report the Expires On date:

VariableValue
SYSTEM.LicenseExpiryExpires On date of a Pilot License, as yyyy-MM-dd. Empty for a license without an Expires On date.
SYSTEM.LicenseDaysLeftWhole days until the Expires On date, 0 from that date on. Empty for a license without an Expires On date.

Ownership

Licenses when being bought are linked to an email address. This is the owner. Only the owner will receive, by mail, its License and Activation Codes. If you wish to change the owner, contact us.

Lost License

Once a license has been activated with a computer ID, by our terms, you cannot reactivate it on another computer.
If you wish to move the license to another computer, contact us.
If your computer has crashed, lost, or stolen, contact us.

Several Instances on One Server

A server can run several EnvisionSCADA instances, see Multiple Instances. Each instance needs its own license. The Computer ID is the same for every instance on the server: request the Activation Code of each instance with that Computer ID and the License Code of its own license.

A license runs in one instance at a time. When a second instance starts with the Activation Code of a license that is already running on the server, its License page shows the following message and it runs in Demo Mode:

This license is already in use by another instance on this server.

The instance takes the license within a minute after the other instance has stopped.
