Functional explanation

GroupObject is the container used to build reusable symbols and popup content. It can contain child objects and can function as a plain group, a reusable master symbol, or an instance of a master symbol.

Typical decorators include group symbol naming, master and instance replacers, synchronization version fields, visibility, access control, and the normal position and size attributes. In practical use, GroupObject is the basis for faceplates, reusable equipment symbols, and repeated assemblies.

Use a plain group to organize objects on a page. Use a master symbol when the same object set will be reused in several places. Push master changes to instances when the shared structure is updated.

General

Configure the group symbol, master symbol, version information, layout behavior and the Alarm Indicator.

LayoutAbsolute (default): the group box follows its children. Flow: the group keeps its own Width (a percentage such as 100% is allowed; choosing Flow sets it) and Height, follows the previous flow object and wraps at the parent width, and Containers with percent widths may be placed inside it. Flow also sets Position to Relative and Float to Left.FlowAbsolute / Flow
Min WidthMinimum width of a flow group; below it the group wraps to the next line. Empty means no minimum.300px
MarginsMargins around the group. A flow group uses them as the gap to the neighbouring flow objects (0px for a page header).0pxText
FloatFloat setting of the group. Left makes a flow group follow the previous flow object and wrap at the parent width.LeftText
PositionPosition setting of the group. Absolute (default) or Relative. Set by the Layout setting; Relative is what a flow group uses.RelativeText

Alarm IndicatorWhen checked, a symbol bound to a UDT instance shows at runtime a frame around the symbol in the colour of the highest active alarm severity and, on its top-left corner, the severity symbol with the number of active alarms of that UDT instance. Frame and symbol blink while an alarm is unacknowledged and disappear when no alarm is active. Set it on the master symbol; Push carries it to every instance. A symbol that is not bound to a UDT instance shows nothing.CheckedCheckbox

Responsive symbols. A symbol master is a Group. Set its Layout to Flow and the group keeps the Width (a percentage such as 100%) and Height you give it, flows on a page with Fit Mode Fluid like a flow Container, and Containers with percent widths may stack inside it. Build a page header this way: one master with Layout Flow, Width 100% and Height 111px holding three flow Containers (a Left to Right pane with the menu button, title, alarm counters and clock; a Left to Right pane with the navigation buttons; a docked Navigator), place one instance on every page as the first object, and every later change to the header is one Push. To collapse the navigation bar into a hamburger menu on screens smaller than full HD, give the navigation buttons Visibility client.ViewportWidth >= 1900 and add a Menu button in the same pane with Visibility client.ViewportWidth < 1900 and a Toggle action on client.NavOpen, the variable the docked Navigator uses for its own Visibility. The hidden buttons give up their space, so the bar shows only the Menu button below the breakpoint and switches back as soon as the window is wide enough.

Position / Size

Configure the position and size of the Group object. Moving or resizing the group moves and resizes the objects it contains.

SettingDescriptionExampleUnits
TopTop position of the object.100px
LeftLeft position of the object.220px
WidthWidth of the object.240px
HeightHeight of the object.180px
Z-indexLayer order of the object. Higher values appear in front of lower values.10Number

Access Control

Configure access control for the Group object.

SettingDescriptionExampleUnits
Access Control EnableEnables access control evaluation for the object.trueBoolean
Access ControlExpression controlling who can use or see the object.SYSTEM.UserGroups == "Operators"Expression
Access Control FilterCSS filter applied when access control is used to alter the object appearance.blur(0px) contrast(30%)CSS filter

Visibility

Configure the runtime visibility and blinking behavior for the Group object.

SettingDescriptionExampleUnits
VisibilityExpression controlling whether the object is visible. In a Layout Flow group, a Flow Container or a Left to Right / Top to Bottom tab pane a hidden object also gives up its space and the following objects close the gap; in an absolute layout it only becomes invisible.PLC1.GroupVisibleExpression
BlinkExpression or boolean controlling group blinking.PLC1.AlarmActiveBoolean or expression
Blink SpeedBlink speed used during runtime.500ms
Blink OffsetBlink offset used to stagger blinking between objects.falseBoolean
